Ability to position 'text' box next to 'short answer' or 'paragraph answer' box

Currently we can only place new fields on top of each other in our custom forms. Most screens are quite wide and it would be nice if in our custom forms we could arrange the text field to be next to the answer field so that less vertical space is used in the form and more horizontal space used instead. It would be really nice if we could arrange the fields in whatever configuration we want on the screen. Does that make any sense?
