I’m writing to report an issue that appeared recently and to ask about a possible solution.
Until last week, when clicking on a patient’s phone number in PracticeHub, it would open a WhatsApp conversation directly in the WhatsApp desktop application. This was extremely helpful in my daily workflow at the clinic.
After a recent WhatsApp update, this no longer works. WhatsApp has removed the ability to be opened via standard phone (tel:) or messaging links, and now only supports its official wa.me links. As a result, WhatsApp no longer appears as an option in the system, and clicking the phone number no longer opens WhatsApp.
The recommended and official workaround from WhatsApp is to use links in the following format:
https://wa.me/COUNTRYCODEPHONENUMBER
(e.g. https://wa.me/34XXXXXXXXX)
Would it be possible for PracticeHub to: • Add a WhatsApp action/button that uses wa.me links, or • Allow patient phone numbers to be opened via wa.me instead of tel:?
This functionality was a very important productivity tool for communicating with patients, and restoring it would greatly improve daily use.
Do you have plans to implement this change, or is there an existing configuration that enables it?
Thank you very much for your support.
Kind regards,
